BEWARE OF PROTECTION PLAN SCAM. I purchased my second laptop with Backmarket. First purchase in 2024 was a dream. Second purchase has been messy, and is starting to seem like a scam. June 2025 - At the point of purchase, I selected the Protection Plan. At check out I was offered a financing option with Affirm. I chose this option. Since early July, I began receiving phone notifications from Backmarket that my $4.99 monthly protection plan payment was declined. I contacted Backmarket. Associate Mr Jesus was confounded and said he saw no issues. I then contacted Affirm. They informed me that they don't accept recurring charges so my protection plan should have been billed upfront as part of my purchase or separated from my purchase so I could pay Back Market. I wrote Mr Jesus back. He thanks me for doing the legwork and agreed with me on my finding! Obviously, I am seeking a way to pay for the protection plan. He launches into directing me on steps that don't exist online. He mentions that if I have trouble, I can send him screenshots. Predictably, no payment option exists. He reviews my screenshots and agrees with me that a payment option does not exist. He says he will look into it. He then informs me that the option to pay will appear once a missed payment is registered. He informs me that it is my responsibility to check back on my account regularly for a missed payment. He tells me not to worry, they generously will give me 50 days to make payment and if I don't, my protection plan will be canceled. I am getting the impression that they claim to offer a protection plan, create payment errors with highly suspicious ways to correct it, and eventually the 50 days lapses and there is no recourse. All exchanges were in writing and I am happy to share the notes on various crowdsourcing sites. I would never have purchased a refurbished macbook without a protection plan and seems that Backmarket falsely advertises a protection plan. If this is not true, let's make it right. Take my money, give me the owed protection plan, and take all threats of canceling my plan off the table, train your employees, fix your payment system and make it right with your customer once and for all.

I think the Macbook Air will exceed my needs. I am happy with the purchase. I knew this model had few USB or C ports- which is more inconvenient than I expected. As always with transition, you need to account for the details. My Word documents did not open normally until we dealt with licensing issues. I had to purchase a new cord to allow the monitor to function. And also a new configuration for my mouse. Count the non- financial "costs" well before a purchase, and a few dollars to the mix. Always something!
